What I think about Crawford High School. Crawford High School has some exceptional diversity among its student body. There is a great sense of community and belonging demonstrated by the multi-cultural representations in our quad. You see students of different nationalities and cultures intermingling and getting along. This is one of the best things about Crawford. Another thing I like about Crawford is the low rate of altercations. I don't see many student conflicts arising on a day to day basis. This is different from other schools that I've worked in, and I can appreciate the comradery among the students. Crawford offers great options for students to excel. However, many of these are underutilized. For example, our online credit recovery program (ngenuity?) offers option to recover credits without having to go to summer school or night school. It's baffling to me that more students don't take advantage of an opportunity, and continue to get further behind in their credits. Also, here at Crawford, we have a lot of support for college admissions, the FAFSA requirements, and scholarship applications. We have CALSOAP that comes and provides an outside service and support for college acquisition. We have field trips to the college fairs. So we are doing everything in our power at Crawford to make sure students are prepared for any post-secondary option they choose. Since I came to Crawford, I have felt welcomed and I feel like I belong. Being a counselor is not always easy, but it is very rewarding as the students continue to come to me more and more to address their needs. Crawford's great, and I like it because it feels like home.
